The Atlantic Rowing Race is recognised as one of the most physically and mentally demanding races in the world.

Ian and Joss are aiming for a competitive crossing time of less than 60 days. In order to achieve this target they will run a shift system – rowing individually for 2 hours on then 2 hours off to keep the boat moving for the entire time at sea.

The physical implications of this rowing pattern are substantial.

Neither rower can sleep for more than 2 hours at a time throughout the crossing.
